Artis began work on the Iron Curtain active protection system in 2004. Since then, we have continuously upgraded, improved and refined the system and its components, increasing performance while decreasing size, weight, power consumption and cost.

Today, our Improved Iron Curtain (I2C) offers the best and most advanced, close-in active protection system on the market.

I2C uses extremely high-speed sensing and parallel processing to intercept and destroy a multitude of threats close to the vehicle, affording the highest level of protection with the least collateral damage.

I2C can be integrated onto any ground vehicle platform, and onto fixed sites such as buildings and other infrastructure. I2C is built upon the shoulders of the original Iron Curtain system, which has been installed and tested on the Stryker, the Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV), the M-ATV, and the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (Humvee). I2C is made in the USA and offers:

  • Top- and side-attack protection, providing full hemispheric coverage;
  • Extensive multi-shot capability;
  • All-weather protection against a broad array of threats;
  • Minimal collateral damage, protecting dismounted troops and civilians;
  • Modularity, including MAPS compliance;
  • An extremely low false-alarm rate;
  • Affordability and ease of use;
  • Ruggedized, dependable solid-state components; and
  • Built-in test capability.

Artis began its APS work on Iron Curtain in 2004 as a DARPA project. The system quickly succeeded during its first live-fire test in August of that year. Since that time, the system has undergone numerous government tests. During the 2013 live-fire test, as part of the Army’s GCV program, the Iron Curtain system received a perfect score.

Safety has always been a top priority at Artis, and our software architecture has been approved via the Joint Services Weapons Safety Review process.
